Various comments give insight into how the readership appreciates this kind of scolding, and a practical solution is explored. CommentaryCmdrTaco has been posting dupes for years, so this isn't anything new per se. However, this is the first time he's lashed out at his core audience for flaming him in email for posting another dupe. Indeed, the group of people notifying him of the dupe are made up in some part (however small) by people who are honestly trying to improve the site.
Several of the comments point out that checking for dupes automatically would be incredible. The simplicity of implementing a rudimentary dupe-detector begs the question: why wasn't this done long ago? Surely if the editors had the interest of quality reporting at heart, it would have been. Instead, keeping in line with their zero-interest in improving themselves policy, the solution is for the readership not to point out their mistakes. Moreover, Taco posts dupes at a much higher rate than the rest of the editors, lending credence to the theory that he doesn't even really read his own site.
Just another example of the editors' non-interest in keeping their customers happy. More injustices by CmdrTaco Injustices Home
